From Here to Eternity
song by Giorgio Moroder
Master of synth and vocoder himself, Moroder significantly influenced many Disco and upcoming artists, and his music is still doing it today.
Most of the music and Disco lovers learned about Giorgio from an album by Daft Punk, "Random Access Memories." Yet, the grandeur of Giorgio Moroder started much earlier in his career.
He is one of the top synth pioneers and can respectfully be called the father of Eurodisco.
When you think of Moroder, the arpeggiator is what first comes to mind. He is a great composer, sound designer, and arranger who innovated the Disco sound with a completely new and unique signet.
Giorgio once said, "It is at least ten times more difficult to get a good synthesizer sound than on an acoustic instrument," and with the title "From Here To Eternity," he showed the world that it is possible to make a stunning piece of music just out of electronic instruments. He proved that he could compose a piece of music with only the synthesizer's sound; he also made a challenge and template for the future generations to come.
I remember the first time I heard this piece on a live PA, and I can't stop thinking how melting it was. The bass arp driven by Disco strings, funky leads, and otherworldy choirs brought me outside of the stratosphere every time.
The song was written by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte and produced by Moroder. "From Here To Eternity" is performed entirely on electronic keyboards and showcases the synthesized futuristic sound, which Moroder also explored on the production of Donna Summer's hits "I Remember Yesterday" and Once Upon a Time, both released in 1977.
Some fantastic machines were used to produce this piece, a legendary Moog Modular, Roland MC4 sequencer, and an EMS vocoder 3000.
What is a super delight on this track is the drum section. Moroder had drummer Keith Forsey record the drum section, but later, he used the early sampling technique with tape to make perfect loops of the beat, which was challenging with that technology.
The snare sound was fundamental in that era of music, and Moroder has done something extraordinary in "From Here To Eternity." The unique robotic/metallic sound comes from amplifying and layering it with a vocoder.
Everything in this song stands out, and it's a four-dimensional ride that will take you on a trip to the edge of the unknown. This is a must for every synth lover, a piece that will inspire you in many ways, a cosmic implosion that will pull you in with all of its magic!
