He is one of the forerunners of Euro Disco, a music genre that originated in Europe in the late '70s.

In 1970, he ventured into the record label business with Oasis Records, which eventually merged with Casablanca Records.
"From Here to Eternity," his solo album was massive in 1977; in fact, three songs from the album reached number 2 on the Billboard charts.
In 1977 he also co-wrote and produced the hit single "I Feel Love" with Donna Summer.
In 1978, he composed the Oscar-winning soundtrack "Chase" for the movie Midnight Express. It was a disco instrumental released as a maxi-single. This track, along with "I Feel Love," is considered as the prelude to the genre of uptempo disco, more specifically known as Hi-NRG.
Some refer to his style of Disco as Munich Sound. A type of music produced in Germany notable for its heavy use of strings.
