In 1978, Carol Jiani gave an audition to take her place for Joe La
Glenn LaRusso of Salsoul Records persuaded her to cut her name from Uchenna Ikejiani to Carol Jiani to make a more straightforward pronunciation for North Americans.
Greca's album Montreal; she recorded two tracks for the project "If You Believe in Me" and "Higher and Higher." These were released on an EP with her auspicious name.
In 1980, she recorded two Sandy Wilbur written pieces with La Greca, "Hit N Run Lover" and "All the People of the World." "Hit N Run Lover," remixed by San Francisco based Moby Dick records, would become her signature song peaking at No. 4.
Jiani also put out a complete album called "Hit N Run Lover." "The Woman in Me" was the album's second single, but its B-side, the uptempo "Mercy," written by Pete Bellote and Sylvester Levay, surpassed the A-side popularity among DJ's. A follow-up album, Ask Me, was released the next year, producing the singles "Ask Me," "X-Rated," and "You're Gonna Lose My Love."
In 1983, she released her last Joe LaGreca production, "Touch and Went, Lover," for the Canadian label Telescope. A total of seven songs were recorded, but the album was not released.
In 1984, she left for England and recorded "Vanity," which reached no. 1 on the UK Club Chart.
She continues recording new material and guests vocal to this day.
