Borghesia is a Slovenian & Croatian electronic/rock music band formed in 1982 in Ljubljana by Aldo Ivancic and Dario Seraval, who were members of an alternative student theatre group - FV 112/15.
Other members of the band included Irena Zagoričnik Tomažin – vocals, Ivo Poderžaj – vocals, Jelena Rusjan – vocals & bass, Sašo Benko – guitar.
The word Borghesia is Italian for the bourgeoisie.
The group was known for its abrasive and dark electronic sounds, unique audio-visual expression, and experimental multimedia performances.
Borghesia is also known for their songs, which are in Croatian, to use imagery and themes of things that are considered forbidden, banned, and repressed, such as gay & sadomasochistic themes, erotic sexual taboos, and fetishism.
Initially, the band released two cassette releases and then recorded their debut vinyl LP "Ljubav Je Hladnija Od Smrti" (Love Is Colder Than Death) in late 1983/early 1984.
The band released several labels, including the Italian label - Attack Records, the Belgian label - Play It Again Sam, and the American label - Wax Trax.
Borghesia released four albums with the famous Belgian Indie Label - Play It Again Sam, including "No Hope No Fear" and "Escorts."
The collective's first two albums were influenced by new wave, electro-pop, disco, EBM. With the EBM style becoming much more prominent in the band's third album
The band cut-up radio sounds and movie dialogues to develop their brand of EBM.
The band went on several Europe-wide concert tours, mainly between 1988–91,
The tours were reviewed in large music magazines in England, Germany such as Melody Maker, NME, Zillo, and New Life Sound magazine.
PS3 Live, a Swedish National Radio broadcasted an hour-long radio broadcast of a Borghesia live show in Gothenburg, Sweden, in October 1988.

In 1995, the collective separated and didn't come back together again until 2009.
The band released a compilation cd, in 2010, including tracks from their previous albums.
In 2014 the collective released the album "And Man Created God" with Metropolis Records.
The comeback album brought a notable change in sound for the band from electro, EBM style to a more arranged rock sound.
In 2016 the band released the live EP "Better Live Than Dead" with Moonlee Records.
They also recorded a new album in 2018 with Moonlee Records named "Proti Kapitulaciji," which has been described as "industrial art-rock based on Srečko Kosovel's modernist poetry."
In 2019 in an interview with Inferno sound diaries, Aldo described their new style as; "…multimedia with prepared computer graphics with live processing and live performance combined with back tapes from the computer."
Borghesia & Laibach are the only Slovenian bands that have gained universal recognition for shaping the world's music scene.
Aldo Ivancic also formed another band named Bast, and he is well-known in the Slovenian music scene today as a producer.
