  • Japan started as a glam rock alternative band and used electronic music and foreign inspiration.

  • The band members were all friends and school mates. Who, made their first public appearance at Karn's brother's wedding reception.

  • The name Japan was only supposed to be temporary.

  • They had nine UK Top 40 hits.

  • In 1982 just as the band was becoming successful, they all went separate ways.

  • In 1991 they reformed briefly under the name "Rain Tree Crow" and released an album.

  • The single "Life in Tokyo" was co-written and produced by Giorgio Moroder.
