do you know this about devo?
Devo formed after the National Guard killed four student protestors at Kent State University, where Mark Mothersbaugh's and Gerald Casales were art students at that time.
Mark and Bob Mothersbaugh's and Gerald and Bob Castles are two sets of brothers in this band.
The theory of De-Evolution was the basic concept of the band: man evolved and diminished throughout time.
Devo is more artists than musicians. In their performances, they dress alike and make robotic motions to portray their concept that people have lost their character.
Their first album was produced by the famous producer Brian Eno. After watching their movie "The truth about De-Evolution," David Bowie and Iggy Pop got them a record deal.
Their only Billboard hit (no.14) is "Whip It" in 1980.
Several of their songs are covered by the groups that discovered them in the 90s such as, Nirvana, The Foo Fighters, and Soundgarden.
Their science fiction theme, deadpan humor, and social sarcasm is the main reason for their fame.
Before their agreement with Warner Bros, they used synthetic instrumentation and time signatures in their songs, which virtually affected new wave and rock music.
