Do you know this about the band tantra?
Celso Valli attended the music school Giovanni Battista Martini Conservatory, initially founded in 1804.
The "Hills of Katmandu" remained on the Billboard's Dance Charts for forty-five weeks, peaking in the top five. A very innovative track for its time, featuring Disco, World Music, Funk, and slightly haunting vibes, sent listeners on a magical journey.
Tantra musically explored things like tarot reading and Brazilian cults.
Their basslines get described as "Moroder on steroids" by some.
"Hills of Katmandu" was such a famous club anthem in places like New York and Rimini that it became a staple for many DJs in the early 80s. Even Chicago House pioneer Frankie Knuckles played it during his set for New Years' Eve in Sydney.
Patrick Cowley has an outstanding remix of "The Hills of Katmandu."
