He recruited nihilistic frontman Johnny Rotten for the Sex Pistols.
McLaren was behind the controversial "God Save the Queen" album satirizing the Queen's Jubilee in 1977.
Had an acclaimed solo artist career, staring off in hip hop and world music later going into funk and disco.
Had legal issues with the Sex Pistols over unpaid revenues and lost in the '80s.
In 1984 McLaren turned to electronic music and opera with the single "Madame Butterfly," which reached no. 13 in the UK and no.16 in Australia.
He lived in Paris and NYC.
He died of peritoneal mesothelioma in a Swiss Hospital.
