Do you know this about Cybotron?
Cybotron formed the early beginnings of Detroit Techno.
Their singles were considered Dark dystopias of the post-industrial steel city with thick Kraftwerk-inspired funk.
They had a synth-dominated sound paired with a drum machine.
Their singles "Cosmic Cars" and "Clear" were a success, which led them to be signed to Fantasy, in Berkeley, California, in 1983.
Davis wanted a more rock direction, and Atkins wanted to continue in the electro-style so, Atkins left the group in 1985.
After the breakup, Davis carried on and released several records as Cybotron, the last in 1995.
Atkins still has a musical career. Atkins founded Metroplex Records and continued releasing records under several names, including Model 500, Model 600, and Infiniti.
He also continued Djing under his name.
Inspirations include other electronic pioneers like Kraftwerk, Yellow Magic Orchestra, and especially the funk of George Clinton. English synthpop/electropop, Italo Disco, and Alvins Toffler’s futurist books The Third Wave and Future Shock.
The name "Cybotron," is a combination of cyborg and cyclotron that Atkins started.
