Did you know this about the ebm pioneers A Split Second?

The Belgian Electronic Body Music (EBM) band, A Split-Second was established in 1985.

The project was founded by Marc Heyndrickx or Marc Ickx in 1985, who was originally a drummer but switched to bass guitar and wanted to sing and write songs. Ickx self-released a demo tape, "Stained Impressions," with producer Peter Bonne who would later be known as Chrismar Chayell.

A Split-Second was later joined by Philip Vargod, known for his new-beat acid-house project Lips Kiss.

The band is considered one of the forerunners of Electronic Body Music, and their music influenced the creation of the New Beat genre. The band rapidly switched to more industrial sounds, heavy use of synthesizers with distorted guitars and Marc Ickx's distinguished vocals.

The band released their debut after signing with Antler Records in 1986 with their single "Flesh," followed by the Ballistic Statues album in 1987. Peter Bonne was the producer and co-author of 4 songs, including "Flesh."

Another song from the Ballistic Statues album "Neurobeat" was written by Icks when he was in high school.

Peter Bonne, who played keyboard, became an official member after Philip Vargod left the band in 1987 and the new line-up released "Rigor Mortis" the same year. Guitar player Fedjean Venvelt also became a member of the band in 1987.

After the band became famous on European dance floors, they were signed by the American label Wax Trax! Records in 1988. With the label, the band released the albums A Split-Second and From the Inside.

"Rigor Mortis," "Mambo Witch," and "Colosseum Crash" were all chart-topping hits.

The band went on their first US tour in 1989.

By 1990, the band was dropped from Wax Trax! Records and moved to Caroline for American distribution while remaining on Antler Records in Europe.

The band had another successful track on the Kiss of Fury 1990 album "The Parallax View." The band was joined by Nico Mansy, playing keyboards for their second US tour.

Following the 1990 tour for Kiss the Fury, creative differences incited a long break for the band, with only infrequent remixes of their first singles keeping the band's identity alive.

"Flesh" climaxed in the UK Singles Chart at #68 in December 1991.

Bonne was involved in a side project, Wasteland, and released his remix album "Flesh & Fire – 1991 Remixes" without Icks.

In 1993 Icks joined with Chrismar Chayell to release the album Vengeance C.O.D., and after a Swedish tour in 1994, the pair split.

Ickx, the founder of A Split Second, continued alone under the name A-Split Second and joined other artists, such as Gitane Demone, in her electronic project Demonix.

In 1995, Icks released the album Megabite under the A Split-Second name and subsequently went on to tour the album with guitarist Fedzjean Venvelt and old keyboard player Philip Vargod.

In 1997 Icks announced his retirement from the music scenes.

In 2001 the band returned, and since 2009 they have been playing regular live shows and even virtual shows since the pandemic hit in 2020.
