As a child, he would only eat with a spoon, hence the nickname.
From the age of 12, he lived with his uncle Bobby Robinson, a record producer.
Spoonie got his start when Peter Brown was looking for a rapper in Robinson's record store, and Spoonie's name came up.
In 2008, "Love Rap" was ranked number 65 on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop.
Spoonin' Rap" featured a lyric that included jailhouse references that would later become common in gangsta rap.
His use of reverb was similar to the style of Jamaican DJs.
