Do you know this about new order?
In 1980, Bernard Summer, Peter Hook, and Stephen Morris formed New Order in England. They started this band after the deaths of Joy Division and Ian Curtis. Julian Gilbert later joined the group at the end of 1980.
In October 1980, Julian Gilbert joined the band. She was the only member recruited after the death of Joy Division. And, had already performed with joy Division many times, playing guitar in summer and Curtis's absence. At that time, she was the girlfriend of Morris. Later on, they both got married.
They were the most influential and known band of the 80s because of their post-punk music style and their danceable electronic beats.
For more than 20 years, the manager of the band, Rob Gretton, was given credit for finding the band's name from an article in "The Guardian," titled "The people's new order of Kampuchea." The band mentions that their name doesn't have any political reference towards national socialism and fascism.
The band's first-ever song, "Ceremony Club," was one of the last songs written by Joy Division. In this song, Joy referred to the possible improvement to their previous sound.
In their second album "Power, Corruption and Lier" (1983), there was a shocking change of sound with synthesizers and sequencers and a big melody in the classic drums, bass, and guitar. This set the foundation of their technique of mixing early technology with the classical guitar.
The all-time bestselling 12-inch single in Britain is their "Blue Monday." But it didn't qualify for an official gold disc because Factory Records didn't have the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).
Their single "Run 2" was very similar to John Denver's "Leaving on a Jet Plane," and it got public attention. John later filed a lawsuit against New Order. Both the parties agreed on the terms of not to release "Run 2" in its original form.
One of the famous recordings is "Temptation." The song is sung by Kelly McDonald's character Diane in the movie "Trainspotting" while taking a bath. The main reason for the song's fame.
