Nightflight to Venus
Song by Boney M.
Producer Frank Farian was the mastermind behind the project "Boney M." In the early days of his career, he made little impact on the music scene until his song "Baby Do You Wanna Bump" (a remake of Prince Buster's song "Al Capone" from 1967), released under the pseudonym Boney M., became successful. The song is successful even today and has been edited and remixed many times through the decades.
After some initial changes, Frank Farian arrived at the lineup with which the group had their biggest successes: Maizie Williams, Marcia Barrett, Bobby Farrell, and Liz Mitchell.
"Nightflight to Venus: is the third album released by Euro-Caribbean band Boney M, released in 1978. The album became a major success in Europe and Canada, topping most of the album charts. It also became their first UK number one album, and it also topped German and Dutch charts.
Frank Farian made four different original pressings and released them primarily on the German label, "Hansa Records." All pressings have slightly different versions of the track. On the first pressing, it was 7:11; on the second pressing, it was 5:55, the third 4:58, and the final and most common 4:46.
It would be a long list to name all the people who worked on this track, from musicians, sound designers, mixing, and mastering engineers. More than 20 people were involved in the creation of this piece.
The vocoder intro packed with spacey backing vocals driven by the jazzy drums of "The Bobcats" gives you an instant impression that this is a serious space disco hitter. In the live sets, you play this one from the beginning. The drums have that swing, baile, tribal ride and are so nicely recorded, produced, and mixed that they will take you on an almost psychedelic ride through the cosmos.
The sound design in this track had a serious approach. The effects, soundscapes, and atonal components all craft a unique atmosphere around the instruments and vocals.
You shouldn't miss this piece. It's a timeless track with a flawless production even compared to today's music standards.
"Nightflight to Venus" is a space flight one of its kind, a music gem that you'll love listening to or be inspired by.
