King Tim III (Personality Jock) - 1979
Do you know this about the fatback band?
"King Tim the III (Personality Jock)" is the first rap record! Released just before Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight".
Fatback formed in 1970 in New York City.
Released 22 albums within the ‘70's and ‘80's.
Predominantly a funk, R&B, and disco band.
Started recording with Perception records then later with Event in 1974.
Had first hit in 1976 with "Spanish Hustle" and later Shortened name to Fatback in 1977.
First Top Ten hit was "I Like Girls" in 1978.
The band was named after the leader Bill "Fatback" Curtis. Bill wanted to use the "Fatback" jazz beat of New Orleans with funk.
Gerry Thomas, the keyboardist, was a member of The Jimmy Castor Bunch too.
