  • "King Tim the III (Personality Jock)" is the first rap record! Released just before Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight".

  • Fatback formed in 1970 in New York City.

  • Released 22 albums within the ‘70's and ‘80's.

  • Predominantly a funk, R&B, and disco band.

  • Started recording with Perception records then later with Event in 1974.

  • Had first hit in 1976 with "Spanish Hustle" and later Shortened name to Fatback in 1977.

  • First Top Ten hit was "I Like Girls" in 1978.

  • The band was named after the leader Bill "Fatback" Curtis. Bill wanted to use the "Fatback" jazz beat of New Orleans with funk.

  • Gerry Thomas, the keyboardist, was a member of The Jimmy Castor Bunch too.
